AUTOGRAPHS

Exchanging signatures as tokens of friendship and respect is an old practice. In

the mid 19th century this could be accompanied by exchanging locks of hair.

From the late 19th through the mid 20th centuries, autograph albums were

popular among school children. The 20th century also saw the introduction of

the school yearbook with the autographing of pages and class pictures.

Other items were embellished with autographs as well, including fans and

textiles where penciled signatures were later embroidered. Come see local

examples of these types of items and more!!!
